On October 20, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that, according to preliminary calculations, China’s GDP for the first three quarters of 2025 totaled 101,503.6 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.2% at constant prices. Economic performance during the first three quarters remained stable with steady progress, and high-quality development has achieved positive results. By sector, the value added of the primary industry reached 5,806.1 billion yuan, up 3.8% year-on-year; the value added of the secondary industry reached 36,402 billion yuan, an increase of 4.9%; and the value added of the tertiary industry reached 59,295.5 billion yuan, up 5.4%.

In September 2025, China’s crude steel production totaled 73.49 million tons, down 4.6% year-on-year; pig iron production reached 66.05 million tons, down 2.4% year-on-year; and steel product output amounted to 124.21 million tons, up 5.1% year-on-year. From January to September, China’s crude steel production totaled 746.25 million tons, down 2.9% year-on-year; pig iron production reached 645.86 million tons, down 1.1% year-on-year; and steel product output totaled 1,103.85 million tons, up 5.4% year-on-year.

 

According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to September 2025, China’s automobile production and sales reached 24.333 million vehicles and 24.363 million vehicles, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 13.3% and 12.9%. Among these, new energy vehicle production and sales totaled 11.243 million vehicles and 11.228 million vehicles, respectively, up 35.2% and 34.9% year-on-year. New energy vehicles accounted for 46.1% of total new car sales.

Poyang has risen to become the fourth-largest fastener industry cluster in China, with 50 enterprises generating annual output value exceeding 3 billion yuan. According to the head of the industrial park, the next step will be to actively promote the fastener industry’s transformation toward high-end, intelligent, and digitalized production. This includes fully rolling out the “5G + Industrial Internet” initiative, encouraging enterprises to move to the cloud, accelerating the deep integration of the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence with manufacturing, and building a smart terminal industry chain. By leveraging digitalization, we will empower the industry’s transformation and upgrading and explore new pathways for high-quality development of the fastener industry.

Recently, China’s first AI-powered smart factory for high-end fasteners—Zhengyuan New Energy’s AI Super Smart Factory for High-End Fasteners—has officially begun construction. The factory will focus on sectors such as aerospace, new energy, and high-end equipment, specializing in the R&D and production of over 60 types of high-end products, including ultra-high-corrosion-resistant bolts, lightweight titanium alloy bolts, and ultra-low-temperature high-strength fasteners. The smart factory has a total investment of 500 million yuan, covers an area of 100,000 square meters, and is scheduled for completion in May 2028 after a construction period of 30 months.

 

The 15th China Iron and Steel Annual Conference is scheduled to be held from October 23 to 24, 2025 (with registration on the 22nd) at the Beijing Convention Center. The theme of this year’s conference is “Boosting the Construction of a Powerful Country in Iron and Steel Technology through New-Generation Productive Forces.” The conference will focus on exchanges and discussions covering fundamental theories of iron and steel metallurgy, process technologies, advanced iron and steel and metallic materials, digital intelligence, as well as safety, environmental protection, and related topics. The conference is co-hosted by the Chinese Society for Metals and China Metallurgical Engineering Corporation Jingcheng Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd.

[Industry Analysis] The November steel PMI came in at 48%: Industry operations have slowed somewhat, and the characteristics of the off-season are gradually becoming more apparent.

According to the steel industry PMI survey and release by the Specialized Committee on Steel Logistics of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the index for November 2025 stood at 48%, down 1.2 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a slight slowdown in industry operations. The changes in individual sub-indices show that steel demand has slightly rebounded, while steel mill production has slowed somewhat, inventory levels have begun to decline, raw material prices remain high, and steel prices have experienced minor fluctuations. Overall, the industry’s off-season characteristics are gradually becoming more apparent. It is expected that in December, steel demand will likely remain stable with a downward trend, steel mill production will contract moderately, raw material prices will ease from their high levels, and steel prices will stabilize amid fluctuating movements.
